Let Them Eat Cake!
Happy hump day!  Here’s to making it through the first half of your week - and to another great cake.  I love the slightly unconventional construction of the layers - between that and the color palette, the cake feels very modern.  Pairing such a modern design with a few floral elements softens it, making it perfect for a wedding!

Another thing I encountered last night was on my to dinner - the rain was coming down really hard, so I popped into Sephora for a few minutes to touch up my makeup and wait for some respite.  They are now featuring fall makeup looks, and have put together a fantastic guide on “how-tos.”  The best part? They have space under each look for you to customize your own with the products you choose/try in store.  I’ll post the looks throughout the day today, so definitely go check them out - the guide is available in store as well as for download on Sephora.com

To start, let’s talk eyes - a bold, black statement on the eyes is very big for fall, which of course I love, especially the winged look!

August 2, 2012

It’s official - I’m excited about fall.  I know it’s still August, I know I have a birthday to look forward to, but after being bombarded with fall fashion over the past few days, how can I not be excited.  Plus, as any true New Yorker will tell you, her closet is full of greys and blacks, which means that a lot of favorites get to come out of hiding come September.

Clearly, this post is not about weddings, but it is about things that I love, so I hope you’ll bear with me, and even enjoy it - it’s something I’m looking forward to doing more of.  Over the past few weeks I realized that having too much of a singular focus is never a good thing, and by putting all of my attention on to everything wedding, I was losing sight of a lot of other things that I enjoy and care about - it even was affecting my personal life.  So, I will still stick with the favorites - bridal blog weekend wrap up, themed posts etc., but interspersed, I’ll share a little more about the broader world that I’m living in, and hope that you’ll still want to follow along.

That said - here are some of the pieces I’m really looking forward to adding to my fall wardrobe (or my fall wish list, since they are pricey!).  Enjoy!

1. Rebecca Taylor Paneled Suiting Dress
2. Vince Camuto Dira Bootie in black
3. TopShop Co-Ord Boucle Biker Jacket
4. Loft Marisa Zip Pocket Skinny Pants (I already grabbed the purple, now I need the black!)
5. Sam Edelman Danielle Pumps
6. Elliott Lucca 3 way Demi Bag in black
7. Rachel Zoe Love Knot Ring
8. Elizabeth and James Sash Pumps
9. TopShop Fur Collar Quilted Biker Jacket (both TopShop jackets are on order, waiting impatiently for them to arrive - happy birthday to me!)
10. Finally, to top it all off, I need need need (wishlist wishlist wishlist) Rachel Zoe’s new Morrison bag in black patent leather - coming soon!

BHLDN is another one of my absolute favorite favorite favorite retailers for anything wedding related, and their bridesmaids collection is no exception.  They don’t carry a ton of choices in terms of style/color, but if they have what you want, consider yourself a lucky bride-to-be.  Plus, as an added bonus, they style each dress with accessories etc.  Here are three favorite styles of mine:

1. Sunroom Dress (shown in Strawberry Sorbet, also comes in Soft Sage)
2. Shadow Stripe Dress (shown in Night)
3. Niceties Dress (shown in Peacock Blue, also comes in Black & French Grey)

More favorite bridesmaids collections tomorrow - stay tuned!

Another way to play it is to take two neutral colors and alternate bridesmaids.  I especially love that this bride chose to combine the two for her MOH - great choices!

Today I’m going to focus simply on things that I love - which of course can all be applied to your weddings/events coming up.

To start, Kate Spade just introduced a bunch of new products that I am fawning over - here are a few must have favorites, starting w/ handbags:

1. Cobble Hill Aleah Bag - the pebbled leather and foldover top, along with the gold chain, make this a perfect bag for any occasion!
2. Evening Belles April in Royal Cobalt - hello perfect something blue

Jewelry also helps bring your art deco theme to life.  Big costume pieces that incorporate an element of black nod to the time period, as does layering necklaces that feel like lariats.  Texture and pattern are just as key in your jewelry choices as they are in your venue, so keep that in mind!

Don’t count maxi dresses out either - there can be something very alluring/sexy about a maxi dress.  The deep v-neck in this option speaks for itself!
