It’s Faraway Friday!
After another crazy week, we’ve made it Friday afternoon - an amazing feat if you ask me. The scary part? 6 more days until London and I am beyond ill-prepared (outside of my wellies of course).  So while I focus on planning for the trip, here’s a fun tribute to the Brits in this week’s Faraway Friday feature!
This week’s designer from across the pond is Ritva Levezza, who just won Best British Designer 2012 at this year’s Bridal Buyers Award.  With a history of 35+ years in the bridal business, this lady certainly knows her stuff! I personally love the intricate detail and the vintage inspiration - check out the whole line!

It’s Faraway Friday (well, sort of)!
So I wrote this post on Friday (clearly) and realized I never posed it! I can’t wait to share this great designer with you, so even though it’s not Friday, here’s a great feature :)
This week’s featured designer is brought to all of you courtesy of the Martha Stewart Weddings staff who helped me discover the incredible Amanda Wakeley.  Based in the UK, she launched her signature label in 1990 and has since been known internationally for designing stylish, supremely luxurious items - her bridal line is no exception.  I’m aching for her to get her designs over to the states, since she’s clearly a master of how to feature the back…perhaps a trip to London is in order!

To me, fall is about setting the reset button for your year - forget new years, post-labor day is the time to start things off on the right foot.  First it was getting ready for school, now it’s about getting ready for life.  Every summer seems to go fast, but every fall flies by that much faster, so being prepared is key.

This fall, I’ll be working towards building some new business at work, but a lot of you brides will be getting ready for your big day.  Part of that is figuring out how to create your dream day within a budget, so today I’ll share some really fun DIYs to help you make your day without breaking the bank.

To start, don’t spend a boatload on your accessories - consider creating your own veil or bow belts for you and your bridal party

As I’ve stated before, I’m much more of an eye-focus person usually, so I absolutely love the fact that this summer & fall, there’s a big focus on metallics.  They can really help amplify a look and are beautiful in the summer sun!

You can either decide to go with a cool metallic look or a warm one.  To start, let’s look at a great cool metallic look.  Using different ranges of silver metallic shades on the eyes to create a focal point on the face, The Beauty Department then uses warmer tones on the cheeks and lips to balance.  Check out the full video how-to for step by step instructions.

Or, if you want to do a warmer eye, you can either follow the same video instructions with golden colors, or you can consider going the glitter route! Here is another step by step how to so that you can achieve a “subtle sparkle.”

No matter which was you decide to go, there’s no better time to shine!

Hello beautiful ladies! Today I want to talk makeup - I’m getting mine done tomorrow for my birthday so my mind is on everything colorful and fun.  I feel like there are so many tips and tricks out there that are worthwhile to know as an everyday makeup user, so I’ve pulled together a few things that might help us all get and stay flawless without as much effort.

We’ll start with lips.  The cardinal rule in makeup is to emphasize one part of your face so that you don’t overdo it - I usually go for eyes but every now and again I focus on lips.  I actually used to be afraid of reds - I have olive undertones in my skin, so it’s tough to find a red that works well - luckily, the professionals at Chanel were able to help me out, but if you’re still struggling to find the shade for your perfect crimson pout, look no further - The Beauty Department has literally profiled a spectrum of skin tones to help us decide what shades are best - brilliant!

They’ve also shared an insider secret that will help your color last and last - so, if you’re planning to emphasize your lips for your big day, or for any day for that matter, definitely keep these tips in mind!

It’s Faraway Friday!
This week’s Faraway Friday featured designer is not as far away as some others, but she’s definitely not a New York local - at least not anymore.  After training at Parsons, Claire la Faye designed one-of-a-kinds for red carpet celebrities, entering into bridal in 2010.  She is based in Portland, Oregon, but lucky for us New Yorkers, she stocks here, as well as online.  Her style? Old Hollywood with a modern day silhouette - a.k.a. extreme luxury.

To start the day off, let’s go with a classic.  Monique Lhuillier is one of the most highly regarded designers in the bridal industry, so we’re lucky that she’s decided to share some of that talent with our bridesmaids too! I personally think that the best pieces in her bridesmaids line are her cocktail length dresses - here are a few favorites:

1. Rouched strapless cationic chiffon dress
2. Lace illusion sheath dress
3. One shoulder taffeta dress
4. Strapless taffeta sheath dress

A small step to remove some of the uniformity of your bridal party’s attire is by selecting a different dress for your MOH - this can be a simple change in style, shade of color, or by introducing a print
